Atlas Quest Profiles

From: carolehada (akacejay@comcast.net) | Date: 2004-11-02 21:12:09 UTC

I'd like to see more of the LbNCA group fill in their profiles and
answer the interview questions.

They're fun to read. We've filled in ours and I check every few days
to see if any other of the "regulars" has done so. Only a very few have.

How do you access them? To fill in or to read
others...

fyi--I went to a small printer today and bought small
pads that they had made out of scraps, mostly card
stock (good for stamping both sides). I had them cut
them in half, so they measure roughly 2 1/2 inches by
4 inches. I will break them into stacks of about 1/4
inch thickness and take them to Staples to be
wirebound. That will give me a stack of logbooks that
are perfect and will probably have cost less than
anything I could have purchased ready to go. I haven't
even been able to find the size of unlined notepad I
would like to use. Carving stamps is no biggie--it's
having logbooks that is my biggest obstacle to
planting!

Go to Atlas Quest and join/log in. If you have trouble just ask for
the Turtle Verde.

That's Green Tortuga to you, buddy. ;o)

Actually, I've been thinking of changing my name to Tortuga
Verde--just to be more language correct. Would that confuse too many
people if I suddenly start calling myself Tortuga Verde?

In other news.... for those who haven't noticed it yet, there are
message boards on Atlas Quest now. If it turns out to be really
popular, I might retire some of these Yahoo Groups I own because I
really *hate* Yahoo Groups. But that won't be anytime soon. Even if
that were to happen, I'd just make the board inactive so people can
still read through the old posts.

Do you have to be language correct? When our
trabajaderos say seeya maana, I just reply Hasta
tomorrow! What was it Mark Twain said about spelling?
He only had contempt for those who were so uncreative
as to spell a word the same way every time. 'Course,
I'm anal about spelling, but we're not talking about
me. If you're Green Tortuga, that's who you is, better
than sopa de tortuga any day. I think I've stayed up
past my bedtime. Seeya algn otra vez! aT

I find the 2nd most difficult obstacle to planting is transferring
the stamp image onto the carving material. Generally, if I use only
black ink for the image, I can print it out on my inkjet printer and
transfer it to Mastercarve by using nail polish remover and rubbing
the back of the image with a spoon. This doesn't always work
perfectly though.

The biggest obstacle to planting is finding a good planting spot.
But I guess some people have more of a knack for this than others.

I don't know, Tortuga Verde sounds like a Baja California menu item.

your problem is not the method its the printer
Go ahead and print on your inkjet printer
then take your image and xerox it
or just print it on a laser printer to start with.
the key is to use a toner based printer - either a Xerox or other type of
copier
or most laser printers (it depends on the toner manufacturer.

Then just do what you were doing before except you won't need to rub with a
spoon
I just use a cotton ball dipped in fingernail polish remover (acetate)
and the image transfers with no problem,

I use the method I saw on one of the carving sites:
trace your stamp image onto tracing paper with a soft
pencil. Invert the traced image onto carving material
and rub with the back of a spoon or other burnishing
tool. It works for me!
